The Open Media Fund for Afghanistan (OMFA) was started by Ahmed Rashid in February 2002 in order to support newspapers, magazines and print journalism in Afghanistan . So far OMFA has donated start up financing to 15 publications in Kabul and other cities in Afghanistan . OMFA is managed by an independent board of directors and is administered by Internews Network. It is registered as a charity in the US.
